I’ve written a series of Songs about the life of Saint Patrick, Irelands patron saint. A musical of sorts that we never got off the ground. This was planned as the closing song of he night: „The Ballad Of Maewyn Succat“ derived from Patricks given name before becoming a priest.

He returned to the people on Eireann’s shore
With a love in his heart and nothing more
Than the memory of this land
And here voice he heard from coast-to-coast

Now, the druids they wanted to see him dead
Then he raised his hands and the darkness fled
Through the faith of this old man
Came the power of the Holy Ghost

He said I’ll lay down my life for you
Endure any strife for you
This land I adore, but He loves you more
Yes, the Lord loves you more

Then he spoke to the chieftains of every clan
of the Lord and the Cross and the Promise Land
And the clover in his hand
showed the Trinity went coast-to-coast

How he touched thier hearts yes, one by one
No blood was shed no sword was drawn
Just the faith of this old man
in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost

He said I’ll lay down my life for you
Endure any strife for you
This land I adore, but He loves you more
Yes, the Lord loves you more

In the year four hundred sixty two
On the sevententh of March he flew
With a clover in his hand
To the highest high, the uppermost

His legacy a life of praise
Is remembered on St. Patrick’s Day
In the heart of this old man
was the Father, Son and Holy Ghost

He said I’ll lay down my life for you
Endure any strife for you
This land I adore, but He loves you more
Yes, the Lord loves you more
